Peer interviewers are research team members who share similar experiences, characteristics, and/or insider status with participants in a study. In research, the term peer refers to any person with lived experience similar to the members of the social group of interest (e.g., experiences of homelessness, addiction, mental illness). Peer interviewing, which emerged from ethnography (Brannick & Coghlan, 2007; Taylor, 2011), is a type of insider research, wherein people with lived experience conduct interviews with members of a community or institution that is being studied.
